The LSC news

Its amazing that some of these songs we have played hundreds of times and can be performed with the brain totally switched off require SO much concentration when re-arranged to play acoustically. You see we're playing @ Pulse Festival  on the 3rd of September and we have been asked to do an acoustic set. We could just play the songs just as we do usually but unplugged, but to me that seems lazy. We took the decision to re-craft everything so that its as though the songs were written specifically for that style. The result is having to re-establish brain waves that have become hard wired over the last 18 months....or something.
I keep forgetting the lyrics as the muscle memory that connects a certain chord and a certain fx change with a certain line is all gone. Instead i'm maybe not playing that chord but a melody line, there's no fx change and suddenly the line disappears from my mind. You see i never really THINK onstage....just let the rehearsing take over and try to connect with the music almost like i'm watching it from a very close vantage point rather than being switched on mentally. As soon as i think about what i'm doing i start making mistakes. Very odd.

As well as all this acoustic stuff we have been doing we have a few regular shows coming up.
19th August @ Hoxton Underbelly,
17th Sept @ Butserfest in Petersfield,
24th Sept @ London Carnage - The Finsbury.

We recently broke a band rule and took part in two competitions. One with the full band, the other just me and Si doing a songwriters comp. Band competitions i always feel are fundamentally flawed because it comes down to opinion. I often get annoyed with sports that are down to judging rather than some clear winner. I mean with a race you see the guy cross the line first and you know for certain he was the best. However with diving, gymnastics or skating they have to wait for the judges to make a decision and in the end it comes down to someone's opinion and opinions are ALL valid really. For this reason when we go into a comp i just assume we're gonna have fun, play and walk away, but it seems we've been getting lucky. Like China getting 10's from the UK judges as we try to politicly snuggle up to them it seems that somewhere somehow there must be a reason to reward our efforts as we have won two things in one week. Not too bad!

Anyway, there'll be music for you to hear soon ad stuff for you to watch so bear with us whilst we get everything ready. We're doing all this shit ourselves and it takes a looong time.

Too much going on to cut through the noise.

I haven't written anything in a while because i just didn't know where to start. Hacking scandal? Amy Winehouse? Paul Daniels hospitalised by Sooty? My usual spring board of current events was too plentiful and definitely over examined by just about everyone so why add to the noise?

So skipping past world changing events like America's decision to increase their borrowing limit (whilst i can't even get a £50 increase from Lloyds who are hardly good with their own money!) i'll tell you about the band.

What have we been doing? Well, recording is the simple answer. And yep, we have been doing it for a while, but that's because we all have lives outside the band that interfere. Mostly work work work just getting in the way, but every spare moment has been filled with something productive and today we put the finishing touches to 9 songs with a further 8 awaiting completion. We have decided to go the totally DIY route, tracking, producing and mixing everything ourselves and you know what? We like it. Actually we love it...i don't even really mind who listens to what we have created or if it does well because i have never been happier with a project i have been involved in and that is worth its weight in gold. An artist's drive often comes from the need to self satisfy. The average listener won't care about the tiny details we agonised over, just like the average film goer won't care about the wording in one brief scene being re-written 50 times. But this is what takes things from being fine to being amazing. Well, potentially anyway as i'm not going to start saying what we have done is amazing. That'd be for others to decide.

Because we can record ourselves and we're constantly writing this is going to be a something of a permanent work in progress with the backlog always there. We have also completed an acoustic EP and have been rehearsing an acoustic set for Pulse Festival.

Ok, so that pretty much brings us up to date and as you can tell i have been putting all my creativity into the songs as this blog is dull as fuck.
